Sex and pornography addiction impact how people see themselves, interact with others, and it affects their ability to cope. Fortunately, this can be treated. Treatment requires specific identification and intervention of addictive behaviours, treatment of emotional regulation, as well as the underlying issues.
Talk therapy or “psychotherapy” including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Psycho-Dynamic Therapy, psychoeducation, group therapy, along with the possible treatment of trauma can be very effective for treating sex or pornography addiction. Ceritified Sex Addiction therapists (CSAT) have the highest specialized training for treating sex addiction, using Dr. Patrick Carnes model. I have completed two levels of CSAT training, with two more to complete in the next year.
Perhaps it is someone you love who is struggling with these addictions? Are you hurting too? Partners of sex addicts can feel like their heart and life are shattered and may experience trauma behaviours. This is referred to as Betrayal Trauma. Effective healing and transforming therapy is also available for the partner, regardless of what the addict may commit to doing.
I’m available to discuss any and all of the above.
